Reefer Mitch is rearing his head…
We woke up yesterday to two pieces of news—one great and one not so great:
Great: Brittney Griner is coming home from Russia after being held on marijuana-related possession charges
Not Great: Mitch McConnell just gleefully blocked marijuana reform that would have supported state and local marijuana conviction expungement programs
We're grateful to President Biden for taking action to free Brittney, but the injustice of her imprisonment makes us even more furious that Mitch McConnell is actively fighting against justice for others harmed by the war on weed. Thousands of people have already signed our petition with our national allies to demand reform. Join us by adding your name now!
In his "victory lap," McConnell called marijuana reform "liberal nonsense" and celebrated that he was able to strike it from the bill.
"Just as Republicans insisted, just as our service members deserve, this NDAA is not getting dragged down by unrelated liberal nonsense, Good smart policies were kept in and unrelated nonsense like easier financing for illegal drugs was kept out."[1]

We can't allow McConnell to continue completely ignoring the will of the American people by refusing to take action on cannabis reform. The votes are there, even among his own Republican caucus. Now is the time for action, and it's up to us to keep up the pressure for a vote. Let's build on the momentum of Brittney Griner's freedom and work to free those who are still incarcerated for marijuana here in the United States.
Together we can put an end to Reefer Mitch's Madness. Add your name to demand Congress prioritize marijuana reform before the new Congress enters in January.
