Be sure to join us on Monday, May 8 at 8:30 pm for this important Town Hall on Freedom from Medical Debt. US Rep. Ro Khanna will be with us with a panel of Patient Advocates and Policy Makers as we launch the campaign to liberate Americans from crushing medical debt.
Why Medical Debt?
Nationally, about 100 million people hold medical debt and medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy. This debt often forces people to cut back on food and other necessities, use up savings, take on more work, and/or declare bankruptcy.
Medical debt is a social determinant of health, specifically impacting mental health, physical health, financial stability, and health equity. Those with medical debt often forgo further medical care for fear of the expense, and those with chronic illnesses are most likely to hold medical debt. Medical debt also negatively impacts credit, making it difficult to secure a job, loan, or rental housing.
