Thanks to GiveGreen donors like you, we saw massive and historic wins all across the country with high turnout in so many races. With the first big election under Donald Trump's second term, these decisive victories will help send a mandate that candidates who run on building a strong clean energy future, lowering costs for families, and defending our democracy can win if they have the support they need. A message was sent last night and we are so thrilled to have played a part in it. Your contributions helped push these candidates to victory and send an unmistakable message to the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans: Clean energy bans that raise costs are not what voters want and backing them is true political liability. There were so many amazing victories last night, here are a few of the incredible and historic victories from this election that we hope will give you some hope for the future: - In Virginia, history was made and all three statewide offices flipped! Abigail Spanberger will be Virginia's first woman Governor, Ghazala Hashmi will be Virginia's first Indian-American Lieutenant Governor and first Muslim woman elected statewide in the United States, and Jay Jones will be Virginia's first Black Attorney General.
- For the first time in nearly 30 years, we have defended our majority In the Virginia House of Delegates! All five of our incumbents — Dan Helmer, Josh Thomas, Joshua Cole, Michael Feggans, and Nadarius Clark — won reelection! We also flipped 13 seats including Elizabeth Guzman, Jessica Anderson, John McAuliff, Kimberly Pope Adams, Leslie Mehta, Lindsey Dougherty, May Nivar, and Kacey Carnegie defeating their pro-polluter opponents.
- In New Jersey, GiveGreen donors helped elect Mikie Sherrill as the next Governor. She centered her campaign on utility rates and was laser focused on the need to lower energy costs with a plan to build more homegrown clean energy in New Jersey.
- In Georgia, Peter Hubbard and Alicia Johnson won two seats on the Georgia Public Commission, cutting the anti-affordability majority to 3-2 on the Commission. Notably, this marks the first time any Democrat has won a statewide, nonfederal office in the state since 2006.
- In Pennsylvania, three state Supreme Court Justices have been retained, each winning by 20 points in a battleground state that Trump carried in 2024. These elections have big consequences for environmental cases before the court, and secure a pro-democracy majority on the court ahead of major tests for the state — including 2030 redistricting.
- And finally, Proposition 50, the ballot measure in California, was approved by voters. This ballot measure will give us the best chance at a fair fight to take back the House majority next year!
This is truly a moment to celebrate! At a time when things are incredibly difficult for so many, we hope that you will take a moment to celebrate these results and then come together again as we prepare for next year's critical midterm elections.
