While the Trump Administration’s relentless attacks on our democracy have been incredibly difficult this year on our communities, we do hope that you will join us today in taking a moment to celebrate and honor Juneteenth and reflect on this day’s promise of equality for every person in our country.
With the recent Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais, we know how incredibly tough it feels right now in the United States to take a moment to celebrate. But we cannot give up and we cannot lose hope at a time when we are experiencing the biggest rollbacks of our civil rights in living memory.
As members of the climate community and GiveGreen, we hope that you will also take a moment to acknowledge that climate change and pollution disproportionately affect Black communities in the United States. The Supreme Court’s devastating decision has gutted what little remained of the Voting Rights Act and has already eliminated the right to fair representation for millions of Black voters and other voters of color in the United States.
As you reflect on this historical day, we hope that you will join us in supporting Black leaders across the country who have a record of standing up for their communities, environmental justice, and are committed to passing comprehensive voting rights and fair map protections.
We, as members of the environmental movement, must step up and ensure we are doing everything we can to achieve equal protections for all against environmental and democratic harms.
In solidarity,
The GiveGreen Team
