In celebration of Black History Month, we wanted to uplift and spotlight an incredible Black Member of Congress who has been committed to fighting for our planet and communities since she was elected in 2018. Representative Jahana Hayes (CT-05) has been an incredible climate leader in Congress and will need the same level of support from climate donors this cycle to ensure she wins reelection. This race was named as a frontline race by the DCCC last cycle — which means that we know that Big Oil and other corporate polluters will most likely be targeting this seat again to flip it and expand their anti-environment majority. Last November, GiveGreen donors supported Jahana Hayes and helped her defend this critical seat in the House — support her today and help keep this seat under pro-environment leadership » Here are just a few reasons we want to highlight Jahana Hayes' incredible work in Congress and make her our February spotlight candidate: - During her tenure in Congress, she has earned a stellar lifetime score of 98% on LCV's National Environmental Scorecard
- She currently serves on the House Committee on Agriculture and is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus
- In Congress, she introduced the Clean School Bus Act and Clean Commute for Kids Act to invest in electric school buses and she helped secure a Wild & Scenic designation for the Lower Farmington River and Salmon Brook, and is working to secure the same designation for 41 miles of the Housatonic River in Connecticut
- In 2018, she made history by becoming the first Black woman to represent Connecticut in Congress
- Prior to serving in Congress, she worked as a teacher and won the National Teacher of the Year Award in 2016
Will you help Jahana Hayes win reelection and put us on the path to taking back the House majority next year?
