State and local elected officials in the US, as well as public schools across the country, have pledged to recognize April 29 as #EndJewHatred Day in an effort to empower and show solidarity with Jewish communities in the US and Canada in their fight against antisemitism.

The international grassroots civil rights movement #EndJewHatred made the announcement on Tuesday, revealing that it has secured close to 100 proclamations, resolutions, and citations in support of #EndJewHatred Day from governors, senators, members of Congress, and state and local elected officials.

Some of the most recent proclamations have been issued by New Hampshire Gov. Kelly Ayotte and US Reps. Frederica Wilson (D-FL), Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ), and Tom Barrett (R-MI). In Canada, Melissa Lantsman (MP – Thornhill) issued the first Canadian #EndJewHatred Day proclamation, followed by MP Stan Cho and MP Dawn Gallagher of the Provincial Parliament in Ontario.

The Anti-Defamation League's (ADL) latest Audit of Antisemitic Incidents, released earlier this month, revealed that antisemitism across the country last year broke "all previous annual records" since the ADL began tracking such data in 1979. The group recorded 9,354 antisemitic incidents in 2024, marking an average of 25.6 a day.

The new #EndJewHatred Day "serves as a unifying call to action to combat antisemitism in all its forms and to raise awareness of the ongoing challenges faced by Jewish communities," as said in the proclamation signed by Ayotte. A proclamation signed by Colorado Gov. Jared Polis stated there is "an urgent need to act against antisemitism in Colorado and across the country." Antisemitism in Colorado increased by 41 percent last year and by 373 percent over the past five years, according to the ADL's latest audit.

Jewish pride matters: why we stand today for #EndJewHatred

April 29, 2025 / Ayelet Raymond

Today, on April 29, we celebrate Jewish pride, which symbolizes not only our pride in our Jewish identity but also the urgent need to support Jewish students on college campuses in their stand with the #EndJewHatred movement.

Recognizing the importance of this day, various local and state governments across the United States have issued proclamations in support of "#EndJewHatred Day." In 2023, an impressive number of over 80 proclamations were issued. These proclamations serve to affirm the values of inclusivity and respect while fostering awareness about antisemitism and the need for proactive responses to hate.

I reflect on my experiences dedicating myself to capturing remarkable moments that promote love over hate by combating antisemitism through art, such as volunteering for #EndJewHatred since 2021. One such instance involved a competing company handing out free ice cream outside the Ben & Jerry's flagship store in Times Square, conveying the message that there is no room for discrimination in light of Ben & Jerry's stance.

The grassroots #EndJewHatred civil-rights movement announced that it will commemorate internationally recognized #EndJewHatred Day on Tuesday, April 29, at the Nova Exhibition in Toronto.

Scheduled speakers include Brooke Goldstein, the founder of #EndJewHatred; Oct. 7 survivor Ofir Amir, also Tribe of Nova co-founder and Nova festival co-producer; Stella Escobedo, an Emmy-award winning journalist. Also, Canadian Minister of Parliament Melissa Lantsman will be honored at the event.

#EndJewHatred Day is a commitment to social justice for the Jewish people, one of the oldest and most historically persecuted minority groups. It fosters empathy, tolerance, cultural awareness and unity against Jew-hatred. Proclamations honoring #EndJewHatred Day have been issued in various locales across the United States, including New York, Nevada, California and Florida. In Canada, a proclamation continues to circulate across the country.

"A dedicated calendar day, such as April 29, is essential to raising awareness, mobilizing action and cementing the fight for Jewish civil rights as a priority in society," said Goldstein.

Three years ago, April 29 was designated as #EndJewHatred Day (www.endjewhatred.com/ejhday) by a grassroots international organization of the same name, founded by human rights attorney and Lawfare Project founder Brooke Goldstein.

Since 2022, April 29 has been proclaimed as #EndJewHatred Day across 12 states by 61 Democratic and Republican elected officials, including New Jersey's Congressman Josh Gottheimer (D-Dist. 5) and State Assemblywoman Lisa Swain (D- Dist. 38).

Lily Glick of Northvale, an activist with the organization, said that "we've been expanding its reach across the country and asking elected officials to get EndJewHatred proclaimed in every state and city. The goal is to eliminate Jew hatred from Western culture through peaceful strategies. It's nonpartisan; it's all about defending Jewish rights and not about taking positions on specific issues regarding antisemitism."

Ms. Glick, who recently retired from teaching at Montclair State University, decided to focus her efforts on getting the day recognized in local school districts as an opportunity for expressing unity and solidarity with the Jewish community.

"As incidents of Jew-hatred continue to rise at an alarming rate, it is more important than ever for educational institutions to play an active role in promoting unity, allyship, and Jewish civil rights," she said. "Schools, after all, are in a unique position to help shape a more just and inclusive future."

The Miami-Dade School Board on Wednesday has approved a proposal to ramp up efforts in the fight against antisemitism.

The district has designated April 29 as #EndJewHatred Day, which is being added to the Miami-Dade schools' calendar.

A national grassroots movement by the same name introduced the concept in 2022 with the goal of quashing all forms of discrimination against Jewish people.

This comes after a more than 200% surge in antisemitic incidents in the United States  between October 2023 and September of last year.
