I want to start by thanking you — every volunteer who knocked doors in the rain, every donor who chipped in when you could, every Iowan who stood with us and believed in what we were building. You gave this campaign everything, and my family and I are all grateful from the bottom of our hearts.
Last night, I called Representative Josh Turek to congratulate him on his victory and to pledge my full support as he takes on Ashley Hinson this fall. While this was not the way we wanted our campaign to end, it is vitally important that we come together and do everything we can to help elect Josh Turek as Iowa's next United States Senator and flip this seat blue.
We ran this race because we believe Iowa deserves leaders who put Iowans first — not the insiders, not the party bosses, not the special interests pumping tens of millions of dark dollars into our politics. Those beliefs did not lose on Tuesday. That fight goes on. That fight must go on.
Because Ashley Hinson has shown us exactly who she is. I watched with my own eyes in 2019 as she sold out Iowans living in mobile home parks to predatory, out-of-state companies jacking up their lot rents by outrageous amounts.
She has lined up behind Donald Trump at every turn — including when she voted to cut Social Security for Iowa seniors. She will have all kinds of big-money donors lining up to do business with her this fall. Iowans can't afford six years of Ashley Hinson.
I believe Josh can beat her. And I intend to stay involved and engaged to make sure that happens.
The coalition we built — Democrats, independents, and Republicans who know their leaders aren't working for them — that coalition is still here. And we're going to need all of it.
Iowa's best days are ahead of us. The next chapter is going to be written by people like you, all across this state. And, on my honor, that is a chapter we are going to write together.
